Days of Action 2018
July 11th-13th, 2018
Day of Action invites volunteers of all ages to rally together around important issues. Last year, tens of thousands of volunteers around the world joined more than 450 United Ways from 19 countries to fight for the health, education and financial stability of every person in every one of those communities. United Way of Central Washington partnered with 7 non-profit organizations to tackle service projects with the help of local businesses and almost 100 volunteers, completing 300 service hours offering hope to community members. This year, we will create meaningful activities centered on youth summer programs, hunger relief, financial stability and support for seniors in our community.
While each United Way centers it's activities on specific challenges, this year's national focus is on summer nutrition. Summer is a critical time for children's academic and physical well-being, but in too many communities, including Yakima County, kids are falling behind and going hungry during the summer months. For some kids summer often means the loss of regular breakfast and lunch. According to a 2012 report from the Food Research and Action Center, six out of seven low-income kids who eat a free or reduced-price school lunch during the academic year do not get a free meal during the summer.
Throughout Days of Action, and all summer long, United Way of Central Washington is ensuring kids have access to the same nutritious meals they receive during the regular school year.
United Way of Central Washington plans to provide 10,000 meals to local organizations and families in need! ARE YOU IN?
We will also be partnering with the City of Yakima to provide a fresh coat of paint to homes for seniors in the community, as well as sorting donations for our partner agency, Love, Inc.
Meal Packaging - Aid with packaging meals for summer youth programs and other agencies in need.
Painting Homes - Paint homes for seniors in the community in collaboration with the City of Yakima.
Sorting Donations - Sort and stock donations for our partner agency, Love INC.
