Washington Fruit & Produce Presents

Day of Caring

United Way of Central Washington will hold its annual Day of Caring on September 9, 2010.  The event will be held at 9 a.m. at the McDonald's parking lot on the corner of 40th Avenue and River Road in Yakima and serve as the Kick-Off event for the Fall campaign as well as an opportunity for companies to connect with local non-profits.  Breakfast will be provided by McDonald's.  The Block Party is sponsored by Washington Fruit & Produce, Coca Cola, Alegria & Company, Joel's Tire, McDonald's, and Key Bank.

There are three ways you can participate (choose one or all):

  1. Attend the Day of Caring Kick-Off Block Party and enjoy breakfast and music provided by a Yakima School Jazz Band.

  2. Help fill the big yellow school bus with school supplies from a School Supply drive.  We will collect new and gently used school supplies for youth in Central Washington. If you are unable to attend, supplies can be dropped off before and after the block party at the United Way office, 116 South 4th Street.

  3. Volunteer time on a full or half day project to benefit one of our local non-profit agencies.  These projects are a great way to learn more about how United Way works to impact local lives.  United Way Day of Caring t-shirts are provided to all project volunteers.

To RSVP for the Block Party or sign up a work group email dayofcaring@uwcw.org .  Be sure to include your contact information, work place (if applicable) and the number attending.

The Day of Caring was first started in 1998 as an event to mobilize local businesses and community volunteers to provide direct assistance to agencies and increase awareness of United Way and the programs that are funded.  In addition the Day of Caring event serves as the Kick-off for United Way’s annual community fund drive.
